Touches Multimdia Du Logitech S530 For Mac

I bought my first Mac (an iMac, all very swish), about two weeks ago. I got over most of the initial oddities of the Mac and came to appreciate very much its overall strength and superior quality to any PC I'd ever owned (and I always owned good ones). The only lasting problem I had was the horribly annoying (for PC users) keyboard and mouse (I had the Mac bluetooth/wireless mighty mouse and keyboard... High end stuff for Mac).

In all, Logitech's Cordless Desktop S530 Laser is a winner. It's designed for Mac users, includes a number of creature features that Apple's own products lack, and makes working just a little easier. And it does what Logitech says it will.

Traditional Mac users who've never used anything else, simply don't understand the ease of use which comes with most higher end PC mouse/keyboard combos. Though I tried very hard, I found the Mac keyboard and especially the mighty mouse to be simply too focussed on form and not enough on function.

In particular, for the mouse, the right click function is just not good enough for ex-PC users, it's really not good enough for Mac in general, given the rest of their quality, but many avid Mac people will have difficulty in accepting this. I don't think it's a matter of preference, either, it's really just a matter of ergonomics and basic physics. Enter, then, the Logitech s530, the product that enabled me to finally find happiness and satisfaction with my iMac.

Above all, it works really, really well in terms of system function, which is extended with lots of useful features (Mac addicts will say 'I don't know why anyone would use these features, why not just learn six thousand different key combinations instead?!' To which I reply: why not use a single button with a nice little icon on it?!), and very very nice in terms of ergonomics. I bought the bluetooth mac mouse/keyboard with my iMac. I shouldn't have wasted the money. I should have bought this product FIRST and just chucked whatever combo came standard. We live and learn, but I hope mine helps yours. I was really looking forward to this new keyboard, made just for the mac, and had ordered it quite a while ago.

It arrived yesterday (the other reviews so far haven't been able to try it out it seems) and after 2 days with it, I am close to returning it. It's not really that bad - mind you, but for $100, I expect quality. Heck, from Logitech, I expect quality. Yet, the Keyboard and mouse are cheaply made. All they keys on the keyboard have a distinctive 'letters are pasted on' look';they are slightly raised and matte on a white dab of plastic.

I know this from $20 no-name keybaords, but Logitech? That's just sub-par and cheap. The keys are fairly small (smaller than the mac keyboards'!), but feel fine.

The board is very flat - so much so that it has a reverse slide from the mac keyboard; it's higher on the front than the back, and there are no adjustments. The mouse is basically the MX 600. I like the look and feel, but again, it feels cheaply made.

It's light and the buttons both have significant play before contact, making a slight move a 'clickery' affair. ALl buttons in fact seem not to quite 'fit'. They all work, but it just doesn't feel (or sound) like a quality product. My MX1000 mouse (also Logitech) feels much tigher and undoubtly provides more accurate; higher res tracking (dpi).

The MX 600 is no longer being made by itself (it has since been replaced by the 610). The colour is NOT all white on either componetn - in fact, the mouse is mostly steel/ aluminum, and a very dark one as such. So are the top and bottom part of the keybaord - VERY different than on the picture, which obviously showed a pre-production unit. All in all, and for the price, I am really disapointed. This could have been a great set, but Logitech really is trying to up their marging with a high cost set at sub-par qualities. In my experience, Mac users don't mind paying a little more, but they expect a better product in the end. I bought my first Mac (an iMac, all very swish), about two weeks ago.
